Welcome to Dover! We are so glad that you are visiting our website and hope to meet you soon. Below you can see some Q&A's that will answer some questions about who we are. Don't hesitate to browse around the rest of our website and learn more about us!
What denomination is Dover apart of?
We are a part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, a denomination that has taken the form of a movement, a denomination that is completely committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ all around the world through our involvement in, and support of, missions and missionaries. You can find out more about the C&MA (Christian and Missionary Alliance) here.
Is Dover a friendly church?
Here's a question you'll ask others, but you'd probably never actually ask anyone at Dover... of course we would say - Yes! But, that all depends on who you sit next to on a Sunday morning, doesn't it? If you sit next to Grouchy Gary, you might leave before the service is actually over. On the other hand, if you sit next to Sweet Sara, you might end up talking with her until you're the last ones out the door. So, the real question is - when you come, will you be Gary or Sara? Please be like Sara, because then Dover will be a really friendly church! Truthfully, the folks at Dover genuinely care about each other and all those who come in the doors throughout the week. If you are willing, you WILL find friends at Dover Church!
What type of a worship service do you have?
A long time ago we decided that there were three things we absolutely had to have in every worship service. In fact, if even one of these was missing then we would be missing the mark. The three things we will have in every single worship service are
1) Corporate worship
2) Prayer
3) Communication of biblical truth.
During worship, we gather to worship God together. We pray to Him and tell Him how much we love and adore Him, and also pray for the needs of others. We need to hear from His Word and understand His desires for us. Pastor Tim, our senior pastor, presents God's Word to us. The scripture is taught with the goal of presenting biblical truth to us that will equip us to serve God and affect how we live our lives. Judy Poferl and Kauline Groskreutz lead us in music worship. Many people participate both vocally and instrumentally in our Sunday services! Our worship teams lead us in singing praise to God using worship songs written today as well as the ones written many years ago. We try to find the "sound of Dover" as we bring our musically gifted people together to worship and praise Him.
I have young children, is there anything Dover offers for them?
Children's Ministry is one of the strengths of Dover Church. We believe that if we can teach children how to have a genuine friendship with God, and what the Bible actually teaches about Him, they will be blessed by that for the rest of their lives! On Sundays from September-May we have a Children's Church that runs simultaneously, but separately, from our adult service. There they learn about God on their own level. This is for kids from 4 years old through the 2nd grade. Of course we have Sunday School classes for all ages of children, youth and adults. On Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00pm we have a Children's program called AWANA for kids 4 years old through the 6th grade. This is a great program filled with fun, games, teaching, and mentoring that kids want to come back to week after week, and that helps them to grow in their Christian lives.
I have teenagers, is there anything Dover offers for them?
Joel Bundt and Mike May head up our youth programs. We offer youth group and bible studies for the Junior and Senior High. Students, Parents, and Volunteers can all find something for themselves in our youth section.
What’s Dover about? .Jesus was asked if there was a “greatest commandment” in the Bible. He said the greatest was to love the Lord your God, and that the second greatest was love your neighbor. At Dover, we are on a quest to live out those two greatest commandments. We’re about loving God and loving people. With that motive, Jesus also gave us a primary task to accomplish for Him: making disciples – producing more and more followers of Jesus Christ.
We hope you sense our love for God and our love for you. If we can assist you on your journey with Christ, please let us know!
